Electrical Voice Theatre at Conway Corridor for Bloomsbury Pageant

Celebrating the electic life of pioneering crystallographer Dame Kathleen Lonsdale: Electric Voice Theatre at Conway Hall for Bloomsbury Festival

“For a married lady with kids, to turn into a firstclass scientist she should initially select, the proper husband”
        Dame Kathleen Lonsdale

Crystallographer Dame Kathleen Lonsdale (1903–1971) was the primary feminine professor at UCL and the primary feminine Fellow of the Royal Society. Her pioneering science led to breakthroughs in natural chemistry and medical therapies. Past science, Lonsdale was a jail reformer, girls’s rights activist and pacifist, warning of the hazards of nuclear physics and wealth inequality in her e-book Is Peace Attainable?

As a part of the twentieth Bloomsbury Pageant, Electrical Voice Theatre might be returning to Conway Corridor on 15 October 2026 for The Peaceable Crystallographer – and different songs celebrating the lifetime of Dame Kathleen Lonsdale.

Electrical Voice Theatre might be joined by UC8 – younger acappella singers from College Faculty London, and Clerkenwell Neighborhood Choir to carry out music which displays Lonsdale’s eclectic life, ranging by way of Irish people track, music-hall, stirring anthems and moral hymns, together with works by Judith Weir and Cheryl Frances-Hoad, Lonsdale’s contemporaries like Elizabeth Maconchy, Shena Fraser and Clara Novello Davies and Conway Corridor’s radical thinkers, Eliza Flower and Emily Josephine Troup.

There might be a post-performance dialogue that includes science historian Dr Patricia Fara and Zoë Waller, Professor of Drug Discovery, Pharma & Bio Chemistry at College Faculty London, and a few of at present’s girls in science at UCL within the yr of its 2 hundredth anniversary.
