Pleasure Oladokun and Adekunle Gold wrote Sage over the telephone in 2020, when the pandemic had shrunk on a regular basis life to 4 partitions and an unsure future. Six years later, the tune sounds unnervingly present.
Launched on August 21, 2026, “Sage” opens inside a hazy soundscape of mild guitar strums and softly spoken vocals. The percussion quickly picks up and the melody opens into one thing brighter.
Oladokun, the Nashville-based singer-songwriter born to Nigerian immigrant mother and father, has lengthy moved between folks, soul and pop. “Sage” brings African music into that blend. Her soulful resonance meets the heat of Adekunle Gold’s voice, with their vocals coming collectively in a refrain that carries traces of folks and Afropop.
They wrote the tune whereas watching a world that appeared more and more obscure. “Each day a brand new flawed” may have been written this morning. The refrain finds them attempting to maintain these ideas from taking up, with burning sage turning into their manner of telling them to go away.
Oladokun produced the monitor, with Nigerian producer Spellz contributing extra manufacturing.
“Sage” will seem on Oladokun’s forthcoming album Hope Is A Heavy Factor, out September 25 through Harmony Information. By the ultimate refrain, Oladokun and Gold are sending the unhealthy ideas again via the smoke.
