A girl who had beforehand accused rapper and entrepreneur Jay-Z of assaulting her greater than twenty years in the past has recanted her allegations.
Jane Doe, as she is recognized in courtroom paperwork to guard her id, initially filed a civil lawsuit in 2024 claiming that Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter and media mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs drugged and raped her in 2000, when she was 13 years previous. On the time of the submitting, the girl was being represented by Texas lawyer Tony Buzbee, who had filed greater than a dozen sexual harassment lawsuits towards Combs. (Individually, Combs was within the midst of a federal investigation for intercourse trafficking and racketeering conspiracy; he was later acquitted on probably the most severe fees.) Each males denied the allegations in Buzbee’s submitting, and Carter issued an announcement claiming he was the goal of an extortion marketing campaign.
Jane Doe dropped the lawsuit towards Combs and Carter a number of months later. In February of 2025, Carter sued Buzbee and Jane Doe for malicious prosecution and defamation. On Thursday, Doe filed a declaration in Manhattan federal courtroom stating that each one of her unique claims towards Carter had been false, and that to her data, her allegations had been filed in courtroom by the attorneys with out conducting any unbiased investigation.
“Shawn ‘Jay-Z’ Carter by no means raped me,” she wrote. “I’ve by no means met or spoken to Mr. Carter. Mr. Carter by no means engaged in any inappropriate conduct towards me by any means.”
The girl has now been dismissed as a defendant from Carter’s lawsuit. NPR reached out to the Buzbee Legislation Agency for remark, however has not heard again.
The developments come as Jay-Z is within the midst of an expert victory lap, celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of his debut album Affordable Doubt with a collection of live shows at Yankee Stadium and an HBO docuseries titled JAŸ-Z In 8, which explores his catalog and legacy.
