Icelandic document label/collective Bed room Group is 20 this 12 months. Based in Reykjavík in 2006 by Icelandic composer and producer Valgeir Sigurðsson, along with American composer Nico Muhly and Australian-Icelandic producer Ben Frost, it reminagined how may very well be created, recorded, and shared with the world.
Valgeir Sigurðsson spent eight years because the studio right-hand to Iceland’s art-pop icon Björk. Ben Frost describes how he “spent unholy quantities of time alone in a bed room in Australia making extremely questionable music after I met Valgeir within the 12 months 2000.” Beginning with only a laptop computer and headphones, exploratory spirit and experimental course of led to a want to dissolve the borders between classical and digital, custom and expertise, the live performance corridor and the bed room.
“The document that opened the room” was Nico Muhly’s Speaks Volumes, seven items produced and blended by Valgeir Sigurðsson. Shut-miked strings, piano, electronics and charged silence.
Since then the label has nurtured works by Daníel Bjarnason, Sam Amidon, Lyra Pramuk, Nadia Sirota, Manchester Collective, aYia, Emily Corridor, Liam Byrne, 404.zero, James McVinnie, Sam Slater, Gabriella Smith, Isabelle Lewis and Daniel Pioro amongst others [see website for more].
