The younger German baritone Johannes Worms has been exploring the broader shores of tune, presenting programmes that target playful explorations of queerness and social narratives. He and his duo accomplice, Nasti introduced their programme Communicate Low – Songs about masculinities and queer utopias within the recital corridor of the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg final season.
Now Worms is returning with one other intriguing programme, Die Florenzer – L’amore masculino created by the Argentinian-German stage director duo Vöcks de Schwindt. Billed as a music theatre monologue for voice and lute the night will function Johannes Worms and lutenist Neo Gunderman in an imaginative monologue about gay want in Renaissance Florence, a summer time night time of queer narratives, accompanied by delicately playful Renaissance music/
“In imagined tales and chants accompanied by lute play, we immerse ourselves in a seductive world of l’amore masculino, friendship+ and early trendy daddies and twinks. Whereas the verb florenzen traditionally meant primarily homosexual intercourse, the night explores the affective connections behind it with speculative creativeness. So revelling in tales of connectedness and friendship unfolds an image of what the on a regular basis lifetime of the Florence may have seemed like.”
The programme might be on the Monolog Competition at TD in Berlin in 8 and 9 November 2025.
