This Saturday and Sunday, September 12 and 13, Adia Anselmi will current her work, Olha pra mim, at Arts On Website in downtown NYC. The work is danced by Anselmi and Chelsea Ainsworth, and explores the connection between two our bodies via bodily contact, mutual help and the will to be seen.
Impressed by a lecture by Brazilian psychiatrist José Ângelo Gaiarsa on basic human wants, Olha pra mim, or “Have a look at Me,” considers the intimacy of the gaze as an area of danger, refuge and belonging.
The duet strikes between choreographed passages, formed by texture and sensation, and extra investigative moments that emerge via improvisation and intention. Inside a efficiency house structured round a metallic geodesic dome, the act of trying turns into a steady subject of relationship – between the performers, the viewers, the house and the physique.
Olha pra mim might be offered at NYC’s Arts On Website on Saturday, September 12 at 6pm, and on Sunday, September 13 at 5pm. The work is half-hour with a talk-back afterward. For tickets, go to www.artsonsite.org/tickets.
