Piper Connolly’s “physique bag” doesn’t creep up on its topic. It’s a revenge music, snarling by a garage-rock-tinged stomp that sounds prefer it was recorded with the studio door left open. The music is about being written off by somebody shut and refusing to vanish, turning betrayal into swagger.
Connolly is a Phoenix-raised, Los Angeles-based songwriter who spent her breakout single “stunning life” in brighter, hookier territory; “physique bag,” launched 24 July 2026 because the second lower from her EP she’s an excessive amount of!, out 25 September, is the place she lets the anger take over. Produced by Esjay Jones and Kevin “Thrasher” Gruft and blended by Nathan Dantzler, it performs like a band that’s been arguing all afternoon and eventually discovered one thing to agree on: flip it up. Scratchy guitars crowd the combination, and the drums clatter laborious sufficient that the refrain feels like a crowd yelling again.
“I needed ‘physique bag’ to really feel just like the second you realise somebody tried to make you the tragedy,” Connolly says, “however you’re truly the plot twist.” She sells the road with clipped consonants and barely suppressed delight at her personal nerve.
She needs the final phrase, and the riff makes positive everybody hears it.
