As Ryan Wigglesworth steps down as chief conductor of BBC SSO, his alternative is introduced as Antony Hermus, principal visitor conductor of Opera North

It has now been introduced that Dutch conductor Antony Hermus will take over as chief conductor of BBC SSO in September 2027.

Hermus completes his tenure as chief conductor of the Belgian Nationwide Orchestra this summer season after which turns into conductor laureate. Throughout his profession, Hermus has championed outside-the-box initiatives. He introduced Ligeti to over 8,000 festival-goers at Holland’s adventurous outside cultural occasion Lowlands with the North Netherlands Orchestra (of which he’s Honorary Conductor for Life), offered Mahler and Stravinsky by Symphonic Cinema at Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, initiated the award-winning Scratch live shows bringing novice voices onto the stage with knowledgeable orchestra, and led Tweetfonie (52 world premieres in a single day) throughout his residency on the Worldwide Kurt Weill Pageant in Germany.
