Final 12 months I chatted to composer Eímear Noone about writing for video video games, movies and TV upfront of her Video Video games in Live performance tour with the Heritage Orchestra [see my interview, ‘What about blowing the box to pieces’]. Now she returns to the Royal Albert Corridor on 4 June 2025 with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) for Worlds of Fantasy: Video Video games in Live performance, and they’re joined by vocalist Aisling McGlynn and the Crouch Finish Pageant Refrain.
This occasion continues the RPO’s pioneering work on this space from the PlayStation in Live performance premiere in 2018 to the primary ever online game live performance on the BBC Proms. Alongside the live performance, the RPO has launched new analysis exploring the position of online game music in attracting youthful audiences to orchestral music:
- 88% of below 25s are keen on video video games
- One in six below 25s (15%) found orchestral music by gaming
- 22% say orchestral scores improve their gaming expertise
- 18% of avid gamers say they’d be extra more likely to attend a live performance if it featured gaming music
